Counterstrike Source ist ein extrem CPU-lastiges Spiel, welches sich oft im FPS-Wert wiederspiegelt. Mit jedem Update hat man das Gefühl die Hardwareanforderungen steigen. In zahlreichen Internetforen wird von der Verwendung von "High-Fps Configs" gesprochen. Was verbirgt sich hinter diesem Namen und was bringen sie wirklich? Wir haben den Test gemacht.

Eine High-FPS Config ist eine Optimierung bestimmter CVARS, Befehle etc, die eine Hardwareentlastung schaffen sollen und somit mehr FPS bringen..theoretisch..Bei einigen "FPS-Configs" ist diese Optimierung mehr Schlecht als Recht und kann daher sogar eine Reduzierung der FPS-Werte hervorufen bzw. den Dropwert erhöhen. Im Folgenden haben wir einige Configs unter die Lupe genommen und interessante Ergebnisse herausgefunden.

Das Testsystem:

CPU: Intel Core2Duo E6400 2x2,13 GHz Conroe
RAM: Corsair XMS 2x1024 MB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB
SND: Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer (da CPU-Entlastend und X-FI-Chip leichte FPS-Steigerungen ermöglicht)

Vorgehensweise:

Mit jeder Config wurde der selbe Weg auf der selben Map abgegangen. Als Map wurde de_inferno gewählt, da sie zu den Performancelastigsten Maps von CSS gehört. Im Infernohaus (Balkonraum) wurde jedesmal eine Nade geworfen um einen FPS-Drop zu erzeugen. Es wurde auf kurze Entfernung und große Entfernung geschaut.
Während dieses "Durchlaufs" lief im Hintergrund ein 60 Sekunden Benchmark, welcher eine Minute lange fast alle FPS-Werte mitprotokolliert, die Minimal-Maximal und Durchschnittswerte berechnet und zudem eine Frametime Auflistung durchgeführt hat.
Der Momentscreenshot wurde jedesmal an der ungefähr selben Stelle angefertigt. Für jede Config wird ein solcher Durchlauf gestartet. Beispiel:

Anschließend beginnt die Analyse der Ergebnisse. Hinweis: Die FPS-Protokollierung wurde verwendet um FPS-Drops festzustellen. Dabei wurde die (ungefähr) größte Differenz zweier unmittelbar aufeinanderfolgender FPS-Werte genommen.
